Veteran Singer Vani Jayaram Dies Mysteriously

Chennai: Veteran singer Vani Jayaram, who adorned over 19 languages with her magical voice passed away on Saturday. She was 77.

The singer breathed her last at her residence in Chennai on Saturday. She was born in Tamil Nadu’s Vellore in 1945. Her real name was Kalaivani.

She made her debut in Malayalam film industry by singing for the movie ‘Swapnam’.

Vani Jayaram was chosen for Padma Bhushan Award the last week. She received the National Award for Best Playback Singer Female thrice.

The singer who has sung over 10,000 songs was living all alone at a downtown apartment.

Her husband predeceased her and she has no children.

She was found dead in her residence in mysterious condition.

Her maid did not get any response despite repeatedly pressing the calling bell. Immediately, she alerted the singer’s relatives who informed police.

In the presence of relatives, police broke open the door only to find her body.

A case of suspicious death has been registered with police.
