In a significant step towards enhancing healthcare access in rural Odisha, Vedanta Aluminium, in collaboration with BALCO Medical Centre (BMC), recently organized an extensive cancer screening and awareness drive under its flagship healthcare initiative, “Project Arogyam – Cure with Care.” The campaign was conducted at Primary Health Centres in Belpahar and Bileimunda, benefitting the local communities.
Equipped with BMC’s state-of-the-art mobile cancer detection van, the health camps offered advanced screenings, including Mammography, Pap Smear Tests, and Brush Cytology. This initiative not only focused on early detection of cancer but also emphasized awareness among the public about prevention and timely medical intervention.
BMC has also committed to providing free treatment for individuals requiring further medical care, along with complimentary accommodation for one attendant accompanying the patient during treatment. The drive successfully reached 182 members of the local community.
Speaking on the initiative, Mr. Jitender Munda, Assistant Block Development Officer of Hemgir, Sundargarh, lauded Vedanta’s efforts, stating, “Vedanta’s screening and awareness camp is a significant step towards bringing improved health interventions to the region, because early detection and awareness are crucial in the fight against cancer.”
This impactful collaboration highlights Vedanta’s dedication to community well-being and underscores the importance of accessible healthcare in rural areas.
