Kabul: Afghan officials have said that south Asia region Al-Qaeda chief was killed in US-Afghan joint raid in the country’s Musa Qala district of Helmand province.
Asim Umar, who led Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) since its inception in 2014, was killed during a raid September 23. The raid was conducted in a Taliban compound in the Musa Qala district of Helmand province, the authorities said.
Taliban, has however, denied that Umar had died. It called the report as “enemy fabricated propaganda”.
Afghanistan’s National Directorate of Security said Umar was a Pakistani citizen, though some reports claimed that he was born in India.
