Uproar in Assembly over MSP rise for paddy, High Court bench

Bhubaneswar: The Assembly today saw pandemonium over the issues of rise in minimum support price (MSP) for paddy and High Court Bench.

The increasing farmer suicides led to disruption of Question hour today after which the ruckus in the House over MSP rise issue led to adjournment of the Assembly.

Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra said the opposition party has given a notice to increase the MSP for paddy which be approved. BJP legislator party leader KV Singh Deo also said their party has given a notice for the same. When the Speaker said he is reviewing their notice, the leaders of the BJP and Congress created ruckus and even protested by tapping the table of the Speaker who again adjourned the Assembly.

LoP Mishra also raised the demand of permanent High Court Bench in Sambalpur. Petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan had recently said that the bench should come up in Sambalpur whereas the Congress leader said it should come up in Bolangir.

“Bolangir had a High Court before merger of princely states and it was also recommended by Jaswant Singh Commission. The Union minister should not fuel any more debate,” Mishra said.

BJP leader KV Singh Deo also said Bolangir would be the right site for the permanent bench. Soon, BJD leader Surya Patro also said that Berhampur too needs a permanent High Court bench. Demands of bench for Koraput and Jharsuguda were also made by various leaders.
