Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday shut down two main markets in the state capital due to violating Covid-19 protocols.

The decision has been taken by the civic body in the larger public interest.

According to BMC officials, the Unit 4 non-vegetarian market and the Bapuji Nagar markets have been closed till June 25 with a view to containing any possibilities of spread of COVID-19.

While all the retail and wholesale selling shops in the Unit 4 market will continue to remain closed till the date mentioned in the restriction order, the shops selling essential commodities and medicines in Bapuji Nagar have been exempted from the restrictions.

” After the police personnel deployed at these market areas today reported about the mass violation of Covid appropriate behavior, BMC enforced the order,” an official said.

“We are urging people to restrain from unnecessary movement during the period of relaxation hours permitted by the State government,” the official added.
