Union govt issues guidelines for Kumbh Mela
Haridwar: The Union government has issued guidelines for the forthcoming Kumbh Mela in Haridwar in Uttarakhand amidst coronavirus pandemic.
The devotees desirous of attending the ‘mela’ will have to produce a compulsory medical certificate from Community Health Centre/ district hospital/ medical college in their state.
The mega festival will continue for 48 days. The Uttarakhand government will issue the notification for the same by February end.
The authorities have spruced up Haridwar railway station for the mega event. The Railways ministry said several special trains will ply on various routes including Howrah-Dehradun-Howrah via Haridwar, Howrah-Yoganagri Rishikesh-Howrah and Patna-Kota-Patna during Kumbha Mela.
As a foolproof security measure, the Centre has approved the deployment of 40 companies of paramilitary forces, including seven companies each of the SSB and the CISF, six of the ITBP and 10 each of the BSF and the CRPF, for the mega event.
This apart , NSG commandos, snipers and bomb disposal squads with anti-sabotage sniffer dogs will also be deployed on the state government’s request. The Kumbh Mela is held once in twelve years at the confluence of the Ganga, the Yamuna and the Saraswati (Sangam) in Prayagraj.
