Bhubaneswar: Panic prevailed among the people of Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts after hearing a sudden unexplained loud sound over the sky.
The sound was so high that it flummoxed people creating fear among them in several parts of the two districts.
People were seen running outside their houses as windows and doors were jolted in the sound. They all looked at the sky but didn’t found any thing that may trigger the sound.
“We are in a shop when the incident occurred. We suddenly came out of the building and looked at the sky but didn’t find anything. We thing there might be any missile testing in Chandipur that might cause the sound,” said a local in Balasore.
Reports said, there was no such pre-scheduled programme of missile testing in Chandipur.
Similar scene also happened in Mayurbhanj where people were apprehension of supersonic jet that might create the sound while taking off from the airstrip.
The government and the police are clue less about the sound, which was akin to a huge.
It was also not an earthquake or any sign of it, said another man in Mayurbhanj.
Some parts of Bhadrak also recounted similar experience.
Geologist Pradeep Dash predicted it to be an outcome of sky quake. “The reason of such sound is still unclear. It might be a sky quake which may cause a sound and jolt. Another reason could be the collision between two meteorites in the sky”.
Earlier in November last year, similar kind of big sound was heard in many parts of Bhadrak, Jajpur, Balasore and Mayurbhanj. But, the government took it casual and didn’t make any efforts to find out the reason.
