Jajpur: An under-trial prisoner, of Sub Jail in Jajpur Road, died on the way while he was being rushed to hospital for treatment on Friday.
Gandharba Swain, a resident of Paikarapur village under Badachana police limits in Jajpur district, was arrested during a loot bid in Sukinda area in December last year.
According to reports, the accused had sustained injuries after a bomb exploded in his hand during dacoity at a forest area in Haripur under Sukinda police limits on December 4 night. He lost his right hand in the incident.
The accused was undergoing treatment at the SCB Hospital in Cuttack. After his health condition improved, he was lodged at the Sub Jail in Jajpur Road.
Swain’s health condition deteriorated on Friday morning following which the jail authorities decided to take him to hospital for treatment. However, he was declared dead on arrival.
