Bhubaneswar: One labourer was killed while another was critically hurt after being trapped under the debris of an under construction roof which collapsed at the Bhubaneswar Airport.
The mishap took place after the under construction roof of a link building between Terminal 1 and 2 at Biju Patnaik International Airport caved in on two labourers who were working underneath.
The deceased has been identified as Antarjyami Guru, a resident of Badamba Narsinghpur in Cuttack District.
A person identified as Naba Kishore Swain, who is a driver at the construction site, has been rescued in a critical condition and admitted to the Capital Hospital. It is feared that some others might be trapped under the huge pile of debris and a search operation is reportedly underway.
Dilip Khatei, owner of Dilip Constructions Pvt Ltd. said that he received information about the mishap at around 11.10 pm and immediately reached the spot.
While talking to the media persons, Khatei said that the mishap was not the result of any kind of inferior works, rather it was a complete fault of the labourers.
However it is alleged that he informed the higher authorites of the government after 30g40 minutes following which the rescue operation was delayed.
Later, the NDRF, CISF and Fire Service personnel rescued the trapped labourer after hours of ordeal. However, doctor at Capital hospital declared him “dead upon arrival”.
The Special Relief Commissioner, Minister Ashok Panda and local MLA Ananya Narayan Jena also reached the spot to take stock of the situation.
