Ragadi: An Under Trial Prisoner (UTP) of Jajpur Road Sub-Jail at Ragadi under Korei police station died on Thursday while being shifted to hospital. He is identified as Gandharba Swain(55).
Swain belongs to Paikarapur village under Badachana police station. The Under Trial Prisoner was severely injured in a bomb explosion at a cashew field on December 4. The incident occurred while he was trying to commit dacoity at Sukinda-Haripur.
Police had shifted Swain to Sukinda police station and later to Cuttack for treatment. One of his hands was severed, but he recovered after treatment.
Swain was taken to Jajpur Road Sub-Jail at Ragadi on December 11. He developed belly pain on Thursday but died on the way to the hospital. Police and jail authorities are probing the matter.
