A far-right mob set a Rotherham hotel ablaze, a building previously accommodating migrants, as police anticipate further unrest across the United Kingdom on Sunday.
As per the reports, masked rioters gathered outside a hotel in South Yorkshire, clashing with officers. The rioters reportedly hurled bricks and shattered windows while hotel guests watched from above.
Violent demonstrations by numerous anti-immigration factions have broken out in various British towns and cities following the fatal stabbing of three girls at a children’s dance class in Southport, north-west England, last week.
Anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim factions exploited the murders, spreading false claims that the assailant was a radical Islamist migrant. However, police confirmed the suspect was UK-born, indicating the suspect’s family was Christian.
Police stated that numerous shops and businesses suffered vandalism and looting, and a Liverpool library was set ablaze. Multiple officers sustained injuries during these confrontations.
On Sunday, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer assured that far-right rioters involved in the violent protests would regret their actions. “We will take all necessary measures to ensure these thugs face justice,” he declared.
“Make no mistake, those who engaged in this violence will encounter the full force of the law. The police will make arrests, individuals will be held on remand, and charges and convictions will ensue,” he further stated.
