Two trampled to death by elephant in Sambalpur


Sambalpur: Two persons were trampled to death by a wild elephant at Kolgaon village under Jujumura police limits in Sambalpur district on Tuesday night.

The deceased persons were identified as Urmila Mirdha (65) and Rashmita Mirdha (12).

According to sources, a pachyderm had entered the village last night in search of food. The jumbo meanwhile destroyed a house in which Urmila, Rashmita and Kandha Mirdha were fast asleep. Soon after the incident, the trio was rushed to the Jujumura Community Health Centre (CHC), where Urmila  and Rashmita were declared dead.

Reportedly, Kandha is undergoing treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital as his condition deteriorated.

On being informed, Forest officials reached the village this morning and initiated investigation.
