Two poachers nabbed, 45 kg tusk seized

Udala: Forest officials have arrested two poachers and seized 45 kgs of tusk at Angarapada region under Udala range on Wednesday. The arrested poachers are Phagu Prasad Hansda and Pitha Soren.

Official sources said the poachers were nabbed during a deal with the forest officials who posed as traders for the tusks. The poachers were arrested and the eight pieces of tusks seized in the midst of the deal for all the eight pieces of tusks at a price of Rs 18 lakh.

Sources said the forest officials of Baripada under the direction of DFO conducted the raid. Forest officials said the tusks the poachers were trying to sell the forest officials who posed as prospective buyers might be the same elephant which had died in Similipal forest region some months ago.

They said the tusks of the dead elephant was missing and it was believed that some poachers might have been involved in the act.

The forest officials of Udala, Baripada and Betnoti were involved in the raid.
