Two Pangolin Smugglers Arrested In Cuttack’s Athagarh


Cuttack: Two pangolin smugglers were arrested by officials of Athagarh Forest division in Cuttack, informed Athagarh Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Sasmita Lenka today.

The accused duo is identified as Manoj Dalei and Chandramani Jena. A dead pangolin has been from their possession, the Athagarh DFO said and added that efforts are underway to nab others involved in the wildlife smuggling.

Acting on a tip-off, a raid was conducted and the Pangolin Smugglers were arrested while they were trying to sell the animal.

Pangolins that feast on ants are highly sought after for their supposed, but unproven, medicinal benefits, and as a culinary delicacy. They are said to be the most trafficked wild animal in the world, the forest official said.
