Two-month advance ration for cyclone-hit Gajapati residents
Gajapati: The Odisha government will provide advance ration for two months to the residents affected by the cyclone and subsequent flood in Gajapati district.
Reviewing the situation after cyclone and flood with other senior officials at the conference hall of the district headquarters here on Monday, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi said each ration card holder will get advance cash of Rs 1000 and other essential commodities.
Padhi said power supply will be restored in Paralakhemundi town by this evening. Similarly, the connection will be restored in all block headquarters by tomorrow and the entire area of the district by October 20.
The Chief Secretary said 11 truckloads of polythene sheets arrived in the district on Monday, while another 50 truckloads will reach the district on Tuesday. He said the sanitation work has also begun in the district.
Padhi confirmed that 18 persons have died in the district and said the investigation on other allegations is underway. Each family of the deceased will be provided ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh as per the rules, he added.
Meanwhile, Governor Prof. Ganeshi Lal urged the state government to speed up the relief operation and assistance to cyclone and flood-affected people.
He also expressed his deepest condolences over the loss of lives in the landslide in Gajapati district and described the incident as unfortunate.
