Two minor boys were charred to death after a haystack caught fire at Balakira village within Baunsuni police limits in the Boudh district on Saturday.
The victims, identified as Krishna Urma, age 8, and Krishna Bhoi, age 5, were close relatives. The fire erupted in the evening while the boys were enjoying a bonfire near the haystack. They suffered severe burn injuries when a portion of the burning haystack collapsed on them.
Upon hearing their screams, family members rescued them and rushed to the Baunsuni Community Health Centre (CHC). However, both boys were declared dead upon arrival by the doctors.
Following the incident, the police arrived and initiated an investigation.
The dead bodies will be handed over to the family members after post-mortem on Sunday morning, the police said.
