Two held in connection with Bhadrak liquor tragedy


Bhadrak: Police on Thursday arrested two persons for their alleged connection in the Bhadrak liquor tragedy that struck on late Monday night.

The arrested accused persons have been identified as Dinabandhu Barik and Padmanava Barik of Daulatpur village.

Acting on the complaint lodged by one Subrat Kumar Nayak, Tihidi police had registered a case (181/19) and apprehended the duo today during a raid.

While the duo has been forwarded to the court, further investigation into the matter is underway, sources in the police said.

Notably, at least eight persons died and over 40 were taken ill after allegedly consuming toxic liquor at a post-election feast in Nuasahi near Pirhata under Tihidi police limits in Bhadrak district.

As many as 40 persons are still undergoing treatment at Bhadrak district headquarters hospital (DHH) and Cuttack SCB Medical College and Hospital.
