Two held for robbing of Rs 9 lakh from businessman in Rayagada
Rayagada: Police on Friday arrested two persons on charges of looting Rs 9 lakh from a businessman in Rayagada district on January 4.
The accused, identified as Durga Das and Aulu Kali, hail from Aska in Ganjam district. They were arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by Sriram Gantayat, the police said.
As per the FIR, Gantayat was returning home after withdrawing cash from Andhra Bank branch at New Colony in the town when two bike-borne miscreants waylaid him and looted Rs 9 lakh from his possession.
On the basis of the complaint, Rayagada Police launched a probe and initially collected evidence from the CCTV footages. After an investigation, the cops nabbed Durga from Aska and Aulu from Kotapeta area in Rayagada. Besides, police have recovered cash of Rs 4 lakh, a mobile and a pulsar bike from them.
While investigation to trace the remaining amount is underway, it is suspected that the accused persons might have spent nearly one lakh and handed over the rest 4 lakh to another person, the police said.
A case has been registered against the duo under relevant sections of the IPC and further investigation into the matter is underway, the police added.
