Two dead, three injured after teenager runs car over footpath dwellers in Delhi

New Delhi: At least two persons were killed and three others were injured after a car ran over the footpath in Kashmere Gate in the national capital. The car was being driven by a Class XII student, who had lost control of the vehicle. The injured men have been admitted to the Sushruta Trauma Centre near Civil Lines.

The mishap occurred at around 5.45 AM. The car had three occupants- all Class XII students- of a top school in Delhi, said a senior police officer.

The errant driver, who was driving without license, was apprehended at the spot, while his two friends managed to escape following the incident, police said. The over-speeding i-20 car allegedly mowed down five people sleeping on a pavement.

The injured and the deceased persons are yet to be identified. The driver has been sent for medical examination to ascertain whether he was driving in an inebriated condition at the time of the accident.
