Two Cyber Fraudsters, 2 Inter-State Chain Snatchers Arrested In Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda: Police have arrested two cyber fraudsters and two inter-state chain snatchers two separate cases have been registered against them at Jharsuguda police station, informed Superintendent of Police  (SP) Bikash Chandra Dash in a press meet held here on Thursday.

The two accused arrested in the cyber fraud case are Sunil Kumar Sahu, 32, of Padadimandir, Adarsh Colony, and Sheikh Amadul, 28, a native of Malda, West Bengal, and at present staying at Kalimandir Road. Besides, the inter-state chain snatchers were identified as Bikram Biswal (35) of Erasama in Jagatsinghpur and Ajay Behera (46), of Chandamari Sahi in Dhenkanal district.

Addressing a press conference at the district police headquarters today, SP Bikash Dash said that the police had received information about multiple suspicious transactions in the bank account of Sunil Kumar Sahu, a resident of Adarsh ​​Colony in Jharsuguda. Police then launched an investigation and found out about the suspicious transactions in Sunil’s name in five bank accounts of Bank of India, Canara Bank, Central Bank, and Union Bank. Police also learned of the involvement of Sheikh Amadul, another associate of Jharsuguda Kalimandir Road, in the case. Accused Amadul also had eight accounts in various banks. Police investigated and found suspicious transactions in all of these accounts. As a result, both were detained and questioned by police.

During interrogation, Sunil Kumar Sahu and Sheikh Amadul admitted to being linked to the cyber fraudsters of Jharkhand, who used to swindle money from people and transfer the amount to their accounts. Both Sunil and Sk Amadul used to receive a cut of Rs 10,000, for each account, every month for letting the fraudsters divert transactions to their accounts.

Jharsuguda Town Police have registered a case 452/21 and arrested them, seizing four SIM cards, two mobile phones, eight bank passbooks, and 3 ATM cards.

SP Dash also informed that a special police team has been formed to trace the victims and other bank account holders of the cybercrime racket.

Jharsuguda police have also arrested two inter-state chain snatchers, identified as Bikram Biswal (35), of Jagatsinghpur and Ajay Behera of Dhenkanal, said SP Bikash Chandra Das.

Police said, Baijanti Patel, a teacher of Bhasma high school, was on her way home in a scooter when the accused duo intercepted her near OSAP Milan Market on Wednesday afternoon on the pretext of enquiring about the route to Jharsuguda. Then they followed her and snatched away her gold necklace near Railway underpass bridge before speeding away towards Jharsuguda.

Following a complaint, police immediately checked the CCTV footage and a special squad managed to apprehend the notorious snatchers within six hours after a hot chase at Sarbahal while they were trying to escape towards Sambalpur.

A black Pulsar motorcycle, a gold chain weighing 20 grams, and two mobile phones were seized from them.

Further investigation revealed that two cases are registered against the accused persons in Chauliaganj PS (171/21) and Bargarh Town PS (330). They also admitted to having committed chain snatching at Bargarh, Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, and Sambalpur, the police said.

A case 450/21 has been registered against the accused duo in Jharsuguda police station and forwarded to the court today, the police added.
