Turtle smuggling racket busted, 2 held

Balasore: A joint team of Railway Police Force (RPF) and Chandipur forest officials on Thursday busted a turtle smuggling racket by arresting two persons involved in the trade at Rajghat railway station in Balasore district.

The cops also rescued around 91 turtles of four different species while they were being trafficked in a steel cage.

Preliminary investigation reveals that the turtles were being smuggled to West Bengal, said the police.

According to police these sea creatures were being smuggled due to the neighbouring state due to demand of their flesh and use in medicines.
