Puri: Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi visited Puri on Wednesday despite being detained for a brief period by police in Chandanpur as the district administration had suspended a ‘pada jatra’ programme to be held in the pilgrim town.
After arriving in Puri, Aparajita continued her march, but was hit by tomatoes. Meanwhile, BJP workers have accused that a Congress worker might have led the act.
Aparajita, who was walking out of the hospital square, was in front of the temple’s office when his procession was hit by a tomato. A young man has been identified as throwing tomatoes at Aparajita’s procession near the temple’s office. The man who threw the tomatoes was reportedly a young Congressman.
“This is a statutory plan. This has been done deliberately,” BJP activists have alleged.
After her carcade was intercepted at Chandanpur, the MP walked with her supporters towards Puri. She said that no permission is required for darshan of Mahaprabhu Jagannath.
Sarangi had earlier announced on social media that she will be visiting Puri today for the darshan of the Lord. In order to avoid any law and order situation, around 18 platoon police force with over 50 police officials have been deployed in Puri.
