New Delhi: Security has been beefed up in Kolkata ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit in the face of planned protest, reports said.
Reports said the Special Protection Group (SPG) has taken over the route that PM is scheduled to take during his Kolkata visit tomorrow. The prime minister will take the road instead of a helicopter to reach the first venue from the airport as he is expected to reach there in the evening.
The security update comes after it was reported that PM’s convoy may run into protests with several social and political outfits planning agitation during his visit.
Students plan to hold demonstrations with black flags and ‘go back’ slogan upon Modi’s arrival. The Kolkata Police on Thursday night completed barricading the entire stretch of the road from where Modi’s convoy will pass.
