Three including minor killed, 1 hurt in three separate elephant attacks in Odisha
Sundargarh/Dhenkanal/Angul: Three persons including a minor boy were killed while another sustained critical injuries in three different incidents of elephant attack in the state on Saturday.
In the first incident, a seven-year-old boy died after a wall collapsed when an elephant tried to enter a house in Barghat village in Sundargarh district.
According to sources, a wild elephant had entered into the human settlement in search of food last night. The pachyderm tried to enter their house to eat paddy kept inside during which a portion of the wall collapsed on the child who was fast asleep.
The child was rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
In another incident, an elderly man was trampled to death while a woman suffered injuries at Gudiakateni village in Dhenkanal district today.
The deceased was identified as Dayanidhi Sahu (65). Sahu was attacked by the pachyderm while he was on his way to the village pond to take bath this morning.
Following the incident, locals blocked the National Highway-55 disrupting the vehicular movement.
In a similar incident in Angul district, an elderly man, identified as Kedar Nath Prasad was trampled to death by a tusker when he was standing near his house.
The conflict between man and animal seems to have gained momentum across the state throwing a challenge for the forest department officials.
