Three gunrunners nabbed in Cuttack, supplier flees

Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police have arrested three gunrunners in Cuttack and seized three country-made firearms along with 15 live ammunitions, three mobile phones and three two-wheelers from them.

The arrested persons have been identified as Gopinath Patra (37), 5 of Dighi under Niali PS, Srinath Rout (40), of Gariroutpatna and Jyoti Ranjan Rout (25), of Archhil PS in Kissan Nagar of Cuttack. However, another accused managed to flee.

According to the police, acting of a tip-off about illegal trade of firearms, Lalbagh police with the assistance of Special squad conducted raid near Eastern side road of RNT college on the road leading to Nimchaudi and found four persons engaged in illegal firearms trading at 8 PM on 15th of October2022.

Lalbagh IIC and his team members apprehended three accused persons while one accused person managed to abscond. During search, illegal arms and ammunitions were seized from the physical possession of the arrested accused persons, the polic said.

The accused persons have been clandestinely supplying the fire arms and ammunitions to the criminals of Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and other districts to run organised crime syndicate and also for pecuniary gain. They have been procuring the illegal firearms from Bihar with the help of the absconding accused who happens to have link with the illegal arms manufacturers of Bihar.

One 9 mm country made Pistol, One 7.65mm country made Pistol, One .380 mm country made revolver, 15 live ammunitions , One Honda Activa 5G, One TVS Apache 160 and One Bajaj Pulsar 150 and three android mobile phone have been seized. All the accused persons were arrested and forwarded to Court today, the police added.
