Three Arrested In Connection With Kendrapara Cracker Explosion

Kendrapara: Police have arrested three persons in connection with explosion of fire crackers that left over 30 injured at Balia Bazar in Kendrapara on Wednesday.

Sadar police registered a case suo motu and arrested Gulu Mallik (27), Arakhita Mallik (30) and Silu Das (27) under different sections of IPC and Fire Work and Loud Speaker Act and Indian Explosive Act.

They have been sent to jail after their bail petitions were rejected by a local court.

On the other hand, 33 injured persons are undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. Out of 33, condition of 10 is stated to be critical. They have been admitted to the special burn ICU, hospital sources said.

A special team of doctors is monitoring the treatment of all the injured.

Meanwhile, Kendrapara ADM Pitambar Samal, Sub-collector Niranjan Behera visited the patients at the SCB hospital and handed over a cheque of Rs 20,000 to the kin of those being treated at ICU and Rs 10,000 to the relative of other injured.

On Wednesday evening, firecrackers exploded at Balia Bazar in the district during the immersion ceremony of Lord Kartikeswar.

There was a firecracker bursting competition among different puja pandals at the immersion venue at Balia Bazar.

A spark from a firework fell on a heap of stored firecrackers which exploded injuring the people.
