Bolangir: Tension erupted at Bhima Bhoi Medical College & Hospital in Bolangir district following the death of youth due to alleged medical negligence. Reportedly, the family members attacked an on-duty doctor which led to a heated protest by the health staff in front of the hospital.
While the health staff demanded the arrest of the persons involved in the murderous attack the doctor, the family members of the deceased youth demanded action against the doctor from negligence in treatment.
On intimation, Sub Collector Sanjay Kumar Mishra, Additional SP Manoranjan Pradhan, Sadar SDPO Srimant Kumar Barik, Model PS IIC Sangram Keshari Pattanayak reached the spot and took stock of the situation.
According to reports, a youth identified as Jitu alias Jitendra Suna (32), of Bishnumunda under Bolangir Municipality area, was admitted to the hospital due to high fever today. His antigen sample was sent for the test immediately and he was shifted to the Isolation Ward. However, he breathed his last at around 3 pm.
Following this, the family members attacked and thrashed an on-duty doctor, identified as Dr. Simanchal Dakua, accusing him of negligence in treatment. The patient’s relatives also vandalised the hospital property during the commotion.
Dr. Dakua sustained grievous injuries on his ear and head and one of his fingers got fractured. At present, he is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Following discussions and assurances by the district administration for a special probe into the matter, both the parties ended their agitation.
