Telangana goes to polls amid high security

Hyderabad:  Telangana  goes to polls amid tight security to elect a new Assembly on Friday.

Officials said the voting will take place from 7 am to 5 pm in 106 constituencies.

The polling will conclude at 4 pm in the  13 Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected constituencies of the state, the officials added.

The fate of 1,821 candidates  will be decided by the electorate  in the election. Nearly 2.8 crore voters are expected to exercise their franchise.

This is the first election after Telangana was formed. Telangana has 51,796 polling stations.

In a bid to take opposition parties by surprise, the TRS government had dissolved the Assembly about eight months ahead of the schedule. But, the Congress formed an alliance in a bid to oust the ruling party.
