Bhubaneswar: A day after unearthing huge unaccounted properties including crypto currency valued at Rs 1.75 crore, the vigilance sleuths on Saturday arrested additional chief engineer Nihar Ranjan Das of RWSS on charges of amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.
He will be produced before a vigilance court today.
Vigilance Director Yashwant Jethwa said that crypto assets of the officer will be frozen. Experts have been engaged to extract more information relating to such properties believed to be owned by the official.
Crypto exchanges in Russia and Germany have been requested through e-mail to freeze the assets of the engineer, Jethwa informed.
Six vigilance teams had carried out raids at several locations on Friday and detected huge properties including plots, flats and crypto currency.
The seizures include a 3 BHK Flat in Bhubaneswar worth Rs.32.5 Lakhs, a triple storeyed building at Modipoara in Sambalpur, six plots in prime area of Sambalpur town.
The anti-graft agency also had detected bank and insurance deposits worth about Rs.64.42 Lakhs, Cash Rs.1,07,785, Gold jewelry worth over Rs.10 Lakhs, two four wheelers, two two-wheelers (Royal Enfield) worth Rs.3 Lakhs and household articles worth over Rs.15.55 Lakhs during the search.
On the allegation of possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income, the agency had conducted simultaneous raids at six places in Khurdha, Sambalpur and Bargarh districts since morning.
