Bhubaneswar: Senior BJP leader and Ranpur MLA Surama Padhy is likely to become the new Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly.
Padhy has been named as the candidate for the Speaker’s post in the 17th Assembly in Odisha by the BJP after the party formed government in the state by defeating the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD in the 2024 polls.
Born on 29th December 1960, Smt Padhy is an Indian politician of Odisha. She is an MLA from Ranpur Assembly Constituency in Nayagarh district. She represents the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Padhy won the 2024 Odisha Legislative Assembly election from Ranpur Assembly Constituency representing Bharatiya Janata Party. She defeated Satyanarayan Pradhan of Biju Janata Dal by a margin of 15,544 votes. Earlier, she lost the 2019 Odisha Legislative Assembly election to Pradhan by a narrow margin of 4,251 votes.
