Sum mishap: Manoj Nayak gets bail, ED demands financial reports


Bhubaneswar: Sum hospital owner Manoj Nayak has been given conditional bail. The Bhubaneswar Additional District Judge-II Court granted the bail alongwith bail to Sum hospital Superintendent Pushparaj Samantsinghar. The Court had reserved the bail verdict after the hearing on Thursday. However, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has demanded Nayak reports of financial affairs of his institutions.

The judge granted Nayak bail on surety of Rs 1 lakh and two bailers. The conditions for bail include full support to police in investigation process.

Nayak was arrested on October 20 in connection with the Sum fire outbreak on October 17 that has claimed 29 lives so far. Superintendent of Sum Hospital Pushparaj Samantsinghar who was arrested on October 18 was also granted bail. The authorities of Sum were named in an FIR filed by Fire Services Department for laxity in fire safety.

Despite bail, Nayak’s woes continue as ED has begun its investigation process today. ED has demanded report on Siksha O Anusandhan University and Sum hospital financial affairs of the last 10 years.
