Puri: Senior BJP leader and former Union minister Subramanian Swamy on Friday met Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati at the Gobardhan Peetha in Puri and discussed several issues with him.
Following this, Swamy said that he will take up the Srimandir Parikrama project issue with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
Swamy said that he will discuss the issue with the Chief Minister and ask him what he wants.
He also opposed the intervention of the government in the affairs of the Jagannath temple. The temples were the hub of knowledge and innovation and kings used to frequently visit them.
“Biju Babu was a close friend of mine. I also have good relations with Naveen. I will discuss this with Naveen and ask him for his views on Heritage Corridor Project. There is a need to end the controversy,” Swamy said to media persons.
He further added, “It is everybody’s responsibility to protect our temples, shrines and heritage monuments. The controversy (surrounding Jagannath temple in Puri) should end.”
