Status symbol comeback: Haryana MLAs to get red flags as replacement for beacons

Chandigarh: All 90 MLAs in the state will receive ‘red flag’ which will bear the logo of Haryana Vidhan Sabha and Member of Haryana Vidhan Sabha-MLA.

The red flags will replace red beacons which were earlier used on vehicles of the lawmakers earlier.

Reports said the lawmakers are expected to receive the flags before the upcoming monsoon session of the Vidhan Sabha next month.

The Haryana Assembly Speaker Gian Chand Gupta, however, claimed that the flags do not symbolise ‘VIP culture’.

This will help “identify and give due recognition to the MLAs when they are on the road”, Gupta added.

Worthwhile to mention here that three years ago, Manohar Lal Khattar-led Bharatiya Janata Party government ,had abolish the ‘VIP culture’ in Haryana by removing red beacons on vehicles of lawmakers.
