State alerts all District Collectors of heat wave condition in state


Bhubaneswar: After the Meteorological Department’s prediction for a hotter summer in the coming days, the state Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) PK Mohapatra on Monday has asked all the district collectors to take measures to tackle heat wave situation in the state.

Issuing letters to all the 30 district collectors, Mohapatra has asked to ensure that the existing guidelines to beat heat are followed sincerely.

Besides, Mohapatra has said that the precautionary measures include ensuring supply of safe water for drinking and other uses to all habitations facing water scarcity, opening of ‘Jala Yojana Kendras’, provision of drinking water at worksites and on buses, observing rescheduled timings for classes in educational institutions and work hour of laborers, special arrangement in all government hospitals and dispensaries for treatment of heat-stress patients and above, all, intensifying awareness campaigns.

Besides, he has also directed the district collectors to take all necessary steps to deal with the situation and ensure achieving zero casualties and has asked to enquire into each case of death due to heatwave that came to light through media or any other source and submit reports to the SRC office within 36 hours.
