Srimandir Opens Doors For Townsfolk, Swargadwar Reopen For Non-Puri Residents

Puri: The Puri Jagannath temple opened its doors for devotees, who are residents of Puri town, from today.

The residents of Puri Municipality area will be allowed entry for darshan from August 16 to August 20. Thereafter, all devotees will be permitted for darshan of the Holy Trinity from August 23, 2021.

The Shree Jagannath Temple was closed and the entry of general public barred in view of threat of the spread of COVID-19 since April 24, 2021.

On the other hand, the holy Swargadwar in Puri will now host cremation of bodies from outside the district.

The district administration had decided to reopen the cremation ground on the golden beaches from August 16.

Cremation of bodies from outside the district has been allowed at Swargadwar with a maximum of 10 people’s participation during last rites of the departed.

Among the other guidelines for performing the last rites, Covid negative proof has been made mandatory for permission to enter the venue and consign the remains to fire.

With the persistent decline in Covid cases in the State the administration has also allowed cremation during weekend shutdowns too.
