Banki: As many as three smugglers were arrested by the Banki Excise officials on Thursday while transporting spurious liquor.
Under the direction of Cuttack Excise Superintendent Dr Santanu Kumar Das, a team under the supervision of Telesfar Lakra, Assistant Excise Officer of Banki, carried out surprise raid in various parts of Banki on Thursday.
During checking, Keshab Rana of Hatamal area was intercepted at Jatmundia Chowk near Jatmundia junction on Thursday morning on suspicion. Following search of the motorcycle, 30 liters of illegal hooch was seized and Keshab was arrested.
The excise team then seized 10 liters of smuggled country-made liquor from Binod Samal of Barpatna village near Barpatna village road. Besides, the team also seized 15 litres of spurious liquor from Samart Rout at Dhansar village road.
The three accused persons were arrested and produced before the court. They were sent to the Banki sub-jail after their bail was denied by the court.
