Sports Secy Vishal Dev to flag off 4th Biju Patnaik Himalayan Expedition tomorrow

Bhubaneswar: Sports Secretary Vishal Dev will flag off the 4th Biju Patnaik Himalayan Expedition to Mt Stok Kangri tomorrow at Kalinga Stadium.

As per reports, the expedition programme is entirely funded by the State’s Sports and Youth Services department at a cost of Rs 20 lakh.

Besides, the Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF), which is the collaborative partner, will provide all the necessary technical support.

Biju Patnaik Himalayan expedition is a voyage aimed to instill values of adventure, team spirit, and leadership among youths.

Stok Kangri (20,190 ft)) is the highest mountain in the Stok Range of the Himalayas in the Ladakh region of north India. The peak is located in Hemis National Park, 12 km southwest of the trailhead (11,844 ft)) in the village of Stok and around 15 km southwest of the city of Leh, the capital of Ladakh.

Despite its high altitude, Stok Kangri is a popular trekking peak and is often climbed as an initial non-technical foray into high altitude mountaineering. However, the difficulty of Stok Kangri is often underestimated and the need to acclimatise before and during the ascent makes Stok Kangri an enduring challenge.
