Solar eclipse: Special timetable for rituals in Puri Srimandir


Puri: For the last solar eclipse of the year, the special timetable for the rituals at Srimandir in Puri has been fixed.

The eclipse which is a partial one will be taking place on Tuesday. The eclipse will take place at 4:56:52 pm and the Sarva Moksha will occur at 6:26:52 pm. Cooking, food intake and rituals of deities are prohibited from 4.57 am.

At Srimandir, ‘Dwara Phita’ ritual will be held at 12 o’clock. Then, ‘Sakala Dhupa’ between 2.30 and 3.00 am, ‘Bala Dhupa’ at 4am and ‘Bhoga Mandap’ will be performed at 4.55am before the closing of the rituals.

After ‘Bhoga Mandap’ ritual, ‘Radha Damodar Besha Mailam’ ritual will be performed and then ‘Mahasnana’ ritual will be held after the eclipse and then the other rituals will follow. The Chhatisa Nijog has fixed the ritual timetable.

This eclipse is visible for 16 minutes and 26 seconds in Puri. So there is no restriction on burning ‘Kaunria’ sticks. People will burn them at Mangu Mutt and Maa Kakudikhai temple on Monday. The district administration has made elaborate arrangements for this ritual. People can offer ‘shradh’ at the north gate of the temple. There will be deployment of fire personnel and the municipality’s cleaning staff for the smooth functioning of the rituals.
