Six injured in group clash at Basta Railway station


Mayurbhanj: At least six persons injured in a group clash at Basta bazaar Railway station in Balasore today. The brawl occurred over an argument between some youths of different community standing in a queue to get tickets.

According to sources, four youths were standing in a queue at the ticket counter for tickets of Kharagpur-Khurda road passenger train. Meanwhile another group approached the counter for getting tickets of the same train surpassing the people standing in the queue forcibly. The group which was waiting earlier opposed the recent comers following which the other group scuffled and thrashed the youths who were obstructing them from doing so.

The outrage between both the groups became extreme after they mocked offensive remarks discriminating each other’s community following which some people staged protest at Basta bazaar main road by burning tyres this morning, demanding arrest of the wrongdoers.

Being informed four IICs of Jaleswar, Basta, Baliapal and Rupsa rushed the spot and pacified the mob. Besides, two IPS officers, an additional SP, Aditional District Magistrate and Tehsildar have also camped at the spot to curb the situation under control.

One person has been detained by the police allegedly involved in the violence so far. A probe into the matter is underway, said a police official.
