Singhu border violence: Man Who Attacked Cops With Sword, 43 Others Arrested

New Delhi: The Delhi Police has arrested 44 people, including the man who attacked a police officer with a sword on Friday during violence at Singhu border between Delhi and Haryana.

All the arrested people have been booked on charges of attempt to murder and obstructing public servant, among others and a probe has been initiated. The case has been registered at  Alipur police station.

The man who attacked SHO (Alipur) Pradeep Paliwal has been identified as Ranjeet Singh, 22, a resident of Punjab’s Kazampur village.

The man with the sword was believed to be one of the protesting farmers who had allegedly attacked a group that barged into the protest site in Singhu, despite heavy police presence, vandalised the protesters’ tents and broke their washing machines.

Clashes erupted between protesting farmers and about 200 local villagers at Singhu border on Friday afternoon after heated arguments between them over road blockade due to the protest. The situation was brought under control after police fired tear gas and resorted to baton charge.
