Sexual harassment slur on private hostel owner in Bargarh, detained


Bargarh: An owner of a private hostel has been detained by the police in Bargarh town after a girl staying in the hostel levelled sexual assault allegation against him. The accused has been identified as Sudhanshu Padhi, the owner of Padhi Ladies Hostel.

Reportedly, the victim is a +2 student at a college in the city and stays in the private hostel. The matter came to light after the girl lodged a complaint with Bargarh police last night.

The victim, in her complaint, alleged that Padhi called her to the storeroom of the hostel and behaved inappropriately with intent to sexually exploit her. The complainant also submitted a video related to the incident to the police.

The accused have been detained for interrogation and cases under Sections 354 and 354 (A) of IPC and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act has been lodged against him, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Bargarh Suresh Nayak, informed the media.

“As per a direction of the district Superintendent of Police (SP), a team comprising of NGO workers, district Collector and police will visit all hostels in the district to check whether the authorities are complying to the set norms and rules by the government to run a hostel, or not. The decision has been taken to deal with sexual harassment incidents taking place at ladies hostels across the district,” added SDPO.
