Odisha is grappling with a severe cold wave and dense fog, causing significant disruptions across the state.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow alerts for several districts, including Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, predicting a rise in temperatures soon.
The cold wave has led to temperatures dropping below 10 degrees Celsius in five locations. Similiguda recorded the lowest temperature at 7.2 degrees Celsius, followed by Phulbani at 7.5, Jharsuguda at 7.6, Rourkela at 7.9, and Kirei at 8.8 degrees Celsius.
Dense fog has severely affected visibility, particularly in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, where visibility dropped to approximately 30 meters. Major roads, including National Highways, have been impacted, causing inconvenience to commuters and goods-laden trucks.
The IMD has issued yellow fog alerts for the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Angul, and Dhenkanal. The weather department predicts that the foggy conditions will persist in the coming days.
Despite the current cold wave, the IMD forecasts a rise in temperatures by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in the next few days, bringing some relief to the affected regions.
Residents are advised to take necessary precautions and stay updated with the latest weather forecasts. The administration is working to mitigate the impact of the cold wave and ensure the safety of the public.
