Servitors can’t use smartphones inside Puri Jagannath temple

Puri: After reports of selfie in the premises of Puri Jagannath temple, the Chhatisha Niyog today decided to restrict the use of smartphone by servitors in the temple premises.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Chhatisha Niyog under the chairmanship of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) chief Pradeep Jena.

The servitors can use only feature phones inside the temple and special logos approved by the SJTA will be put on their mobile phones. The SJTA will provide the logos to servitors, the meeting decided.

The meeting also discussed regarding the upcoming holy Kartik month and special rituals to be performed during this period.

The temple servitors and staff will use non-camera phones inside the shrine with special logos approved by the SJTA, said Pradeep Jena.

We have also planned to introduce Closed User Groups (CUG) system for the servitors and will discuss with mobile operators soon, he added.
