Sensex, Nifty Decline After Opening Marginally Higher; Pharma Stocks Drop

New Delhi: Benchmark stock market indices declined after opening marginally higher on Thursday, triggered by a drop in pharma company stocks.

The S&P BSE Sensex was down 95.17 points at 77,242.42 at 10:10 am, while the NSE Nifty50 fell 22.40 points to 23,493.60.

The other broader market indices were also trading mixed as volatility witnessed a slight uptick.

High-weightage Nifty Bank, Nifty Financial Services and Nifty IT fell in early trade, but Nifty Pharma was the top loser.

The top five gainers on the Nifty50 were Ultratech Cement, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Hindalco, JSW Steel and Coal India.

On the other hand, the top losers were Sun Pharma, HDFC Life, Bajaj Finance, Power Grid and HCLTech.
