Senior scribe from Gajapati dies of heart stroke after tested COVID +ve
Berhampur: A senior journalist of Gajapati district passed away at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on Sunday morning. He had tested positive for COVID-19.
The senior journalist was working with the ‘Eenadu’, a Telugu daily. He was to be shifted to a COVID hospital this morning, but suffered a heart stroke and succumbed.
He was initially admitted to the Gajapati district headquarters hospital but shifted to a private hospital here as his condition deteriorated. His swab test was positive for COVID-19.
The senior scribe had represented the Telugu daily for 40 years. He played an important role in the formation of Gajapati district with his activism through his articles.
Berhampur MP Chandrasekhar Sahu, Parlakhemundi MLA K Narayan Rao, Mohana MLA Dasarathi Gomango, and many senior leaders and noted personalities of the region have expressed profound grief on his untimely death.
This is the second case of a journalist’s death in Odisha due to Covid-19 infection. On Saturday, a 42-year-old reporter of an Odia daily working in Hinjilikatu of Ganjam district has succumbed to the virus.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in April had announced that the state will provide an ex-gratia of Rs 15 lakh to next of kin of working journalists dying due to Covid-19.
