Seemanchal Express Derails In Bihar; 7 Killed, Several Injured
Bihar: At least seven passengers were killed while several others injured when the Delhi-bound Seemanchal Express derailed in Bihar’s Vaishali district early on Sunday morning.
The death toll has been confirmed by East Central Railway (ECR) General Manager LC Trivedi. Besides, the Railways have announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the kin of the deceased.
“Rs 1 lakh would be given to the grievously injured and Rs 50,000 to those who suffered simple injuries. All medical expenses will also be borne by the Railways,” Railway Miniter Piyush Goyal’s office tweeted.
On the other hand, the Bihar government has also announced Rs 4 lakhs each to the kin of deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
As per reports, the mishap took place at around 3.58 am at Sahadai Buzurg in Vaishali district when a rail fracture caused 11 bogies of the train to jump the tracks. The 12487 Jogbani-Anand Vihar Seemanchal Express originated from Jogbani in Kishanganj district.
Reportedly, one general coach, one AC coach B3, three sleeper coaches – S8, S9, S10 and six more coaches have derailed.
On being alerted, Railway Accident Medical Van along with a team of doctors reached the site for rescue. Two teams of NDRF have also reached the spot and launched a rescue operation.
