Kulgam: Security forces have killed one terrorist and four others were cornered in Kulgam area of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday morning.
Officials said a fierce encounter is continuing between security forces and terrorists in the region.
Reports said the operation started between the police and army after the ultras opened fire. The terrorists opened fire when the forces were conducting a search operation, officials said.
Sources said the encounter comes a day after security forces gunned down two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists in another gun battle in in Kokernag area of Anantnag district.
Last week, General Officer Commanding in Chief, Northern Command, Lt Gen Ranbir Singh had claimed that security situation in the Valley is ‘under control’ and that as many as 86 terrorists were killed in Jammu and Kashmir in 2019 alone.
Security forces had neutralized dreaded terrorist Zakir Musa, the so-called chief of Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, a group affiliated to al Qaeda a day after the counting of election results were held. Zakir Musa was a close associate of Burhan Wani, who was killed in 2017.
