Bhubaneswar: In order to curb the further spread of coronavirus infections, section 144 will be imposed in Twin Cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar ahead of the New Year celebrations from tonight.
The emergence of a new Coronavirus strain in the UK has once again forced countries across the globe to impose restrictions to limit the movement of people and celebrations this new year as precautionary measures.
The prohibitory orders will be in force from tonight. As per advice, police have asked denizens of the Twin City to return home by 9 pm.
Reportedly, 40 platoons of police forces will be deployed in the cities tonight for a crackdown on the large congregation.
This has been informed by Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi.
Besides, the populace has also been advised not to arrange large gatherings and feasts at apartments and residential areas.
While barricades will be put up at different places, commuters without prior permissions will not be allowed to move forward.
The government, through guidelines and orders, has prohibited parties, and special events at clubs, pubs, restaurants, and other places that attract people in large numbers without social distancing.
On the other hand, the Odisha Government has imposed night curfew on the eve of New Year across the State, restricting a large congregation of people in public places. The night curfew will be imposed from 10 PM of tonight to 5 AM tomorrow, informed Pradeep Jena, SRC.
However, all essential services and public communication have been exempted from the curfew.
The government had earlier prohibited ‘Zero Night’ celebration and ‘Welcome to New Year’ programmes across the State on December 31, 2020, and January 1, 2021, respectively.
