Bolangir: Vigilance sleuths on Monday arrested the principal of Bangomunda Panchayat Samiti Higher Secondary School while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 80,000 from a librarian.
The accused principal has been identified as Minati Rath. She had demanded Rs 1 lakh from a librarian, Dolamani Meher, in order to avoid suspension from the service.
Sources said Meher was on leave on January 2. The accused principal issued him a show-cause notice and threatened to suspend him from the service if fails to pay the gratification. Following this, Meher approached the anti-corruption wing and lodged a complaint.
Based on the plaint, the anti-corruption agency laid a trap and caught the accused principal red-handed while accepting the bribe of Rs 80,000 from the complainant in her house.
The Vigilance also team conducted a search and verified several documents. While a case has been registered against the principal, further investigation into the matter is underway, sources said.
Reportedly, the accused principal has been arrested and forwarded to a Vigilance Court here, informed Bolangir Vigilance DSP Kadambini Samal Prakash.
