SC refuses to pass order on farmers’ tractor rally

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has refused to pass order on farmers’ tractor rally saying Delhi Police have the powers to deal with such a situation.

The agitating farmers over farm laws have proposed a tractor rally on Republic Day celebrations on January 26.

Hearing Centre’s application seeking an injunction against any kind of farmers’ protest or their proposed tractor rally, the apex court said as the question entails entry into Delhi this is a law and order situation. The cops have enough powers to deal with it, the Court said.

Meanwhile, some reports claim that the tractor rally on January 26 will only take place at the Haryana-Delhi borders and there will be no disruption of the Republic Day.

The Supreme Court had stayed the implementation of the new contentious farm laws on January 12. It had also constituted a four-member committee that will make recommendations to resolve the impasse.
